What to Expect When Lengthening Your Crown

Posted .

If you’re about to improve your oral health by lengthening your crown, our High Desert Dental team is happy to help you prepare for your appointment!

The more you know about your treatment, the better because it will help you feel relaxed and comfortable in the hands of Dr. Trista Pottenger. So, to help you prepare for your visit, our team asks you to expect the following steps:

Step 1: Your dentist will begin treatment by numbing your tooth and surrounding gums with a local anesthetic. This will help prevent pain and discomfort during your treatment.

Step 2: Then, once your mouth is numb, she will cut the gums and pull them away from the tooth. This will expose the roots of the tooth and the surrounding bone.

Step 3: When appropriate, your dentist will remove the gum tissue from your mouth. If necessary, she will also remove bone from the roots of the tooth. This process will be done using a combination of hand instruments and rotary instruments.

Step 4: Once enough of the tooth has been exposed, your dentist will deeply irrigate the area with sterile salt water.

Step 5: Your dentist will then stitch your gums together after the area is cleaned. If needed, your dentist will cover the surgical site with a dressing called intraoral.
