Is Sedation Dentistry for More than Just Pain?

Posted .

Are you afraid of going to the dentist? Would you rather deal with a toothache than schedule an appointment? If so, have you considered sedation dentistry? As you probably know, sedation dentistry is exceptionally useful for overcoming anxiety and pain. But, did you know that there are other reasons your dentist could recommend sedation dentistry?

For example, your dentist may recommend nitrous oxide to keep you comfortable. Some people struggle with keeping their mouth open for an extended period of time: others struggle with gag reflex. With sedation dentistry, both of these problems can be subdued while your dentist completes your treatment.

Similarly, sedation dentistry can actually save you money. Of course, your appointment could be a little more expensive with sedation dentistry, but your dentist will also be able to do more. This means you can save time since you won’t need as many appointments. And since most dental appointments happen during work hours, you won’t lose as many work days, effectively saving you money.

Finally, sedation dentistry may be useful if anesthetic isn’t. While anesthetic isn’t a good choice for people who simply don’t like needles, there are other instances where sedation is more useful. For example, some patients experience pain even after an anesthetic is administered. Similarly, some areas can be hard to numb with anesthesia. In all of these circumstances, sedation dentistry can be more effective.
